I have been planning to make a 30 before 30 list for awhile now and have started numerous rough drafts where I get maybe a dozen things down and then get stuck and can't come up with anymore.
This weekend I decided I was going to finish my list even if it meant thinking really hard...
To start here were some of the guidelines I came up with:
- Has to be feasible in the current time frame (just under a year and a half)
- Has to be in our budget (Germany and Rome are already planned!)
- Has to be something I would actually enjoy doing or an experience I can learn and grow from
- Extra motivation: Things that will be hard once we start a family
I actually came up with 40 things, this is where YOU come in! Help me narrow down my list. I am just under a year and a half until my 30th so I need to get started on this list stat!
Here is my rough draft:
- Start a blog - done obviously but I need a way to keep track of my progress and get a little encouragement!
- Oktoberfest in Germany
- Visit the Vatican (bonus points for fist bumping the Pope)
- Learn to sew my own clothes
- Buy no clothes for 1 year (365 days!)
- Get in the best shape of my life
- Turn the back room into a useable space
- Master Macarons
- Learn to play chess
- Do something that scares me
- Get rid of everything in the house that hasn't been used since we moved in
- Get rid of clothes I don't love, don't look good on me or don't fit well
- Finish the list of "House To Dos"
- Learn to cross-stitch
- Crochet an adult-sized blanket
- Learn to make my great aunt's famous rolls
- Take a road trip without any planning
- Climb a waterfall
- Go fishing with my dad
- Visit NYC!
- Get involved with Arthritis Advocacy - started that here
- Finish reading The Feminine Mystique (finally!)
- Build a piece of furniture
- Get in touch with an old friend
- Save Money
- Finish my MBA (no more procrastinating!)
- Shake a bad habit
- Record my family history
- Have a FABULOUS 30th birthday celebration!
- Visit a state I haven't been to yet
- Try a new food
- Learn to cook spaghetti squash
- Run (or jog) an entire 5k
- Make work meaningful or make a career move
- Take a pottery class
- Learn how to take good pictures
- Take a dance class with Matt
- Start playing piano again and practice 3x a week
- Learn to swim better
- Visit my brother in DC
#13 will never be done. Unless you refuse to add to that list. That's more like a life-in-progress-goal.
ReplyDeleteSO TRUE! I was thinking of just keeping it at the things that were put on the list when I bought the house 3 years ago and still haven't done.
DeleteI would love to be able to sew my own clothes! Buying no new clothes for a year sounds hard. Does that include undies?
ReplyDeleteUndies are allowed! I just wrote a post about the rules I made for myself for my 2013 Clothing Diet: http://iammegandsocanyou.blogspot.com/2013/05/as-you-may-have-guessed-if-you-read-my.html?m=1
Delete#18 sounds dangerous! Might want to scratch that one if you want to make sure you're around for the rest of the things on your list!
ReplyDeleteActually that is one I've already done. We climbed Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica on our honeymoon! It was awesome and freezing!
DeleteNo way, I did Dunns River Falls when I was 12! I remember having to hold hands with everyone as we went up and now it makes a lot more sense :) On another note (#40) I have a brother to visit in DC as well!
DeleteWasn't it fun! Matt can't say no so he ended up buying the video they try to sell you at the end. It is funny to go back and watch!
Delete32 needs to be taken off; seriously, you poke some holes in it with a fork and can microwave it. Not impressive enough to be on this list. 31 is lame too.
ReplyDeleteWell maybe you can teach me next time we are in Chicago because the one time I tried I threw the whole squash away!
DeleteI'm so glad that there are so many people doing this challenges before 30. I stumbled upon your blog while surfing through others 30 before 30 blogs. I started mine, but instead of 30 I'm doing 29 before my 30. I love your number one because it's the same as my number one.
ReplyDeleteI would remove #9 and for #6 and #25 I would put down a challenge instead. For example, for #9 do the 30-days squat or crunches challenge and #25 start a savings plan like save XX per week until you're 30.
Good luck!!
I just checked out your list, I might steal a few! I followed you on bloglovin' so I can keep track of your progress. Maybe we can be each other's cheerleaders!
DeleteSo why only 29?
I chose 29 to celebrate each year of my life. I'm thinking of doing a 50 before 50 after my 101 goals in 1001 days. My friend has started calling me crazy goal list lady =) I think we need all the support that we can get.
DeleteI started my blog on blogger, but I need to tweak it some more.
