Bike Secrets

Biking is one of my favorite things about spring/summer... but much like this contributor I have a little secret.

I bought a new bike last spring and before I did I hadn't ridden a bike in probably 10 years! I didn't take a break in riding because by choice. Because of my arthritis I wasn't able to move my hips in the motion needed to pedal a bike. I have had both my hips replaced and after rehab can finally ride a bike again! You always hear the phrase "it's just like riding a bike" meaning once you know how to do something you will always remember how to do it no matter how long it has been since you did it last. I suppose it is true that I still "knew" how to ride a bike when I got on my new bike after ten years of not riding but that didn't mean it wasn't terrifying! Luckily, my husband was patient and helped me regain confidence in myself and we have enjoyed spending many miles on our bikes together!

What activity did you take a hiatus from and come back to later in life? Was it "just like riding a bike" for you?

  1. At one point I took a break from riding horses and gymnastics and yes to me it was just like like riding a bike when I came back to it :)

    1. Do you ride horses often? A friend of mine competes and her horse is awesome!

  2. I've taken breaks from biking and sure I know how to do it when I get back on but man my leg muscles are NOT up to the task! It takes a while to get back into it.

    1. Isn't that the truth! But I kind of like the soreness, it makes me feel a sense of accomplishment!
