I can't resist a good ball pun... |
I originally found the baseball fabric in the quilting cotton section at Joann's and knew it would look amazing paired with a Cardinals shirt! You can also order the fabric online here and it is also available in a cream and navy variety (it looks like it is also a $1 off this week).
As I mentioned my mother is very thin... I made the skirt based on my measurements but knowing she is a bit smaller than me I adjusted accordingly. When I was done the elastic had more stretch than I was expecting and I knew it would be too big. So like any good daughter I used my seam ripper on that damn zig zag stitch and tried again. When I gave it to her yesterday it fit (yay!) but she wanted it to be more of a slim fit (boo!). Who knew my mom was so chic? Needless to say I will be cozying up with my seam ripper once again, however this time I have two rows to take out... the things you do for mom!
There is a silver lining to this story though! Since, I had to adjust the waist I went back to Joann's to get some different elastic because I didn't like the feel of the original waistband. While I was there what do I find but CARDINALS RIBBON! Seriously it was meant to be! Thus the belt/sash was added and I think it really makes the skirt!
I had planned to make myself a skirt too but used a bit more fabric than I thought I would. That isn't going to stop me of course... I will be purchasing more fabric and am thinking I will use the scraps for some game day wristlets!
I decided a tutorial wasn't really necessary since there are a million out there already. This is just a really simple skirt made from a rectangle of fabric, one seam and some elastic... sew simple (sew punny!) You can google easy skirt, fast skirt, one seam skirt, etc... But since I am already here I might as well do the work for you. Here are some links with tutorials to get you started!
