Sewing Made Simple

I have owned my sewing machine for over a decade now and have pulled it out from time to time through the years for quick projects. For years I have exclaimed "THIS IS THE YEAR I WILL LEARN TO SEW!". I also declare I will eat less crappy foods and workout regularly... As you can probably guess that I never get far with these resolutions.

But this year something changed... What you ask? I gave up buying clothes for ALL of 2013. Yes you read that right, NO NEW CLOTHING (ok so there are some exceptions, but for the most part no clothing shopping). In the past motivation was lacking but now the only way to add a piece I just HAVE to have is by making it myself! So, I dusted off the machine and reviewed the basics.

I have found a lot of great tutorials for beginners but this one by Tilly at Tilly and the Buttons is probably my favorite. It is so comprehensive that someone who hasn't touched a machine ever or in almost a decade will be able to learn quickly!

The cool thing about starting to sew again after a decade or so is the online community. When I got my machine in high school the internet wasn't what it is now. We still had dial up back then (and we walked to school up hills both ways... grumble, grumble, grumble). Now there are soooooo many blogs with detailed tutorials, free patterns and all the youtube videos you could ever need!

I will be sharing some of my completed projects soon and also some of my favorite sewing blogs. But in the meantime check out Tilly's "Learn to Sew" series by clicking the picture above. Or check out my Mother's Day skirt post.

Happy Sewing!
