Target Beauty Box Review

In early May Target's Target Style Facebook page announced a new offering of beauty boxes that they were starting as a trial. I have ordered their free beauty bags multiple times. These bags came with a few one time use samples and some coupons. I rarely used the samples or coupons but I liked the bags. (who doesn't need a free makeup bag?) The beauty box is along the same line as the bags but was $5 which included taxes and shipping and promised five samples. The box finally arrived this week and to be honest I had totally forgot I ordered it so it was a nice little surprise!

This is the box after being removed from the shipping box... exciting no?

And the goodies! The box included the following:
  • Gilette Venus & Olay Razor in new Sugarberry Scent
  • Fekkai Glossing Cream
  • Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips
  • L'Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream in Light
  • La Roche-Posay Effaciar Duo
  • Coupon for $3 off a $15 beauty purchase at Target

So far I have tried three of the five items and am pretty pleased with the box considering the $5 price tag. Even if I don't use the other two I feel I got my moneys worth!

The BB Cream is something I have seen all over the place and have been curious about so I am very glad I got this tiny sample. What I learned is BB Cream is not for me! There is a reason I don't use liquid foundations and this reminded me why I love my Bare Escentuals powder foundation so much!
Before switching to BE I had the hardest time finding the right shade of foundation. Even though this BB Cream is "light" like me it still had a bit of an orangeness to it that did not match my skin tone! I blotted some of the excess off in an attempt to blend and you can see the results of that on my washcloth.

It is pretty obvious my opinion on this but just to be clear I would not purchase this product! Maybe it is just me, I have friends that swear by the magical BB Cream so don't avoid it based solely on my opinion!

Today I also tried the Fekkai Glossing Cream. I loved this product! It gave me a great shine without making my hair look oily or dirty. It also helped my hair stay frizz-free after my 2 mile lunchtime walk which is quite the feat considering the MO humidity is making a comeback! I have read that this stuff is quite pricey so I am very pleased with this sample. Based on how much I used today this little bottle should last me a while! I would definitely consider buying this when I run out depending on the price.

Last but not least the Gillette Venus & Olay razor pack. This included the body and one razor cartridge. It also had a little suction cup holder thingy which I actually needed!
Confession time... I have been Venus razor user for as long as I can remember. Despite having my Venus razor in the shower 90% of the time I use my husband's Fusion ProGlide. I LOVE that razor! The difference between this new Venus razor and my old unused one is not only the Olay moisturizing strips attached but it also has five blades! This is actually more than the Fusion! I have used it two days in a row and am pretty pleased. My husband may be happy that I found my own razor that I actually like too! I especially like the moisture strips because you don't need to use shaving cream and for whatever reason that makes me feel like shaving goes a lot faster... it probably doesn't really but every minute counts!

So, overall I am very happy with the Target Beauty Box. I paid $5 and I read somewhere from some beauty aficionado that the value of the items in the box came out to over $20... seems like a win to me! The razor itself sells for over $8 so I feel I definitely got more than my $5 back!
As would be expected with items of this type there will be things you don't like or use. I am totally curious about the Sally Hansen Nail Strips but the style I received is a strange black polish with glitter. I don't hate it but it seems more of a fall/winter type design so I may hold off on trying those. I don't really have a need for the La Roche-Posay Effaciar Duo so I will probably give that to my brother to try.

The plan according to Target is to make these beauty boxes a subscription deal similar to Ipsy Glam Bags and the like. I would consider joining in if the boxes continue to have some higher value items like the razor. For $5 it is a fun little present to receive, especially if you forgot you ordered it!

Would you purchase the Target Beauty Boxes if they offer them up again in the future?

  6. I didn't know Target did beauty boxes! That is so cool! I also love their bags. I would use a few of the samples, but some of them just never fit me...like the super dark foundation colors.
